Nag Panchami

Nag panchami is the festival celebrated all over the India. The womenfolk pray to the Mother Goddess Nagamata for well being of the family members. The yellow coloured sacred thread is tied to the forehand of the family members which gives protection from all obstacles. Womenfolk generally get up early in the morning and after having a oil bath pray Goddess Nagamata and visit temples to offer milk, flowers and fruits (especially banana). All the temples of Nagamata are well decorated with colourful lightning.
In some places, mid day deal (bhog Prasad) is also offered to the public.In Secunderabad City,

Andhra Pradesh State there is a temple known as `Nagadevta Temple’ near Yapral. Temple is very old and is quite spacious and can accommodate about 200 people easily. People throng to visit the temple and have a darshan of the Nagmata. The priest wore red coloured clothes and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Aarti is being done with great devotion. There are more than 100 idols of snakes in the temple. It is believed that the Nagamata bless all who prays her. Every year special buses are also being runned.
A fair is held were people purchase various items like bangles, sarees, food items. Cultural programmes are also being conducted. Shops generally sell all the required pooja items including the various rings made up of copper.Especially on Tuesday, devotees come from far off places and attend to special pujas. Any sort of hindrances in one’s fate (kundali) especially from serpent is removed through special pujas for which one have to pay a certain nominal fee. Prasad are also offered to the public.
