Munshi Premchand

Dhanpat Rai (Munshi Premchand), was a famous Indian author, poet who ushered into the Modern Hindi and Urdu literature with his writings. Premchand was born in a village near Varanasi in India . Premchand was a social reformer and thinker. His novels has messages on social evils like, dowry, poverty, communalism, colonialism and corruption and Zamindari.

Premchand has authored over 300

short stories, novels and several number of essays, letters and plays. First novel Godaan is ranked amongst the finest novels . Other novels are Gaban, Kafan Poos ki Rat, Idgah, and Bade Ghar ki Beti, Shatranj Ke Khiladi. his last novel Mangalsootra. Novel still remains incomplete as he died in the middle of it on 8 October 1936.
